Mangalore, July 3, 2013 : If everything goes as per plan then Mangalore will soon get a fully Automated Driving Test Track and a Driving Training Institute for heavy vehicle drivers, on the lines of such facilities available in the state capital Bangalore. The authorities have already earmarked a 20 acre land for the purpose at Mudipu near Mangalore.
Sources revealed that the project may be initiated within the next three months. As of now works for a similar automated driving test track, have begun in Shimoga too. Incidentally, Mangalore RTO Mallikarjuna is keen in pursuing this project in Mangalore more so because the project was initiated in Shimoga while he himself was serving there.
The fully automated driving test track will test the driving skills of the driver on its own with the help of censors fitted on either sides of the track, he says.
The driving training institute is proposed to come up in a ten acre land adjoining the driving test track at Mudipu. The main objective of this institute will be to train drivers in safe driving particularly more so because of the plying of large number of heavy vehicles including oil tankers in the region.
Once the project is complete, it would reduce the pressure as well as congestion at the Regional Transport Office in Mangalore.
