Auto drivers instructed to charge fixed rates in Manipal

Udupi, May 21, 2016: Speaking at the inaugural function of interactive session with auto service providers organised by Manipal University, District Police, Regional Transport Office and Autorickshaw Unions, Udupi SP, K. Annamalai, on May 20, Friday stated that the autorickshaw drivers here should charge pre-paid fares during the night as this would benefit both them and the students of different States studying here.

SP Annamalai.jp SP Annamalai said that there were a lot of complaints of rude behaviour and overcharging of students of other States by the autorickshaw driversin Udupi/Manipal. Surveys had shown that wherever pre-paid services were in operation, it had benefited the passengers and the drivers.

The students from the educational institutions in Manipal mostly had fixed points to go to such as railway station and KSRTC bus-stand to their educational institutions and from their educational institutions to their hostels. Hence, the autorickshaw owners and operators themselves should sit together and decided on fixed / pre-paid fares.

The auto-drivers usually charge high for outsiders as they know they have no option and pay . But there should be fixed price and the pre-paid service would be the best to public convenience

Every city needs officer like Annamalai. Prepaid auto counters are must because they loot the people with their fares. Especially Manipal many are from other state and take the advantage of them.
