Mangaluru, Feb 29, 2016: DK District Working Journalists Union staged a protest near the DC office today Feb 29, Monday against the police department who stand in favor of the accused regarding allegedly assaulting Mohd. Asif, reporter of a Kannada Daily Jaya Kirana at Saralikatte recently.

Addressing the protestors, Tharnath Kapikad said that, there has been drastic increase in the Ganja scam in the city, Asif was trying to reveal the truth but he was assaulted by four men. This incident is strongly condemned by the journalists as there have been consistent attacks on Journalists and need to be stopped.

Senior Journalist Harish Rai said that, this incident is been politicized by the Uppinagady police and stand in favor of accused, police need to take strict action to the accused. Asif’s attack is opposed and Journalist will fight for the justice.

DK District Working Journalists Union appealed DC for further strict action on this case. Prior to this protest, Journalist siege Uppinangady Police station where large number of Journalists gathered in seeking justice.

The police have to take the support the journalist as they are finding cause for our safety. Its their duty to give them protection.
