Art exhibition depicting Konkani culture launched at Orchid Gallery

Mangalore, July 28, 2011 :Colourful Shadows, a display of art work created on the occasion of the World Konkani Convention 2010 by 18 artists from all over India, was launched at Orchid Art Gallery in Hampankatta on July 28 Thursday.

Roy Castelino, one of the patrons of Mandd Sobhann, the Konkani cultural organization, which organized the World Konkani Convention, inaugurated the exhibition by lighting a lamp. In his address, he said that the works of art depict Konkani culture and urged the public to purchase the works of art.

Orchid Gallery Director William Pais voiced his opinion that the 21 oil and acrylic paintings on display illustrate the rich and colorful local culture.

Some of the paintings are a fisherwoman with a basket of catch by Ahmed, a smoke-filled kitchen by Ramesh Rao, a tribal folk dance against the backdrop of a hut by Kandan G., a woman holding a lamp in front of the Tulsi plant and performing the morning rituals by Veena Shrinivas, an imprisoned gumot lamp by Purshottam Adve, and a tribal woman with her saree caught up in a tree branch by Syed Asif Ali.

The exhibition can be viewed till Aug 4.
