Kaup , Sep 14, 2014: Speaking after distributing the benefits of various development schemes to the minorities, Urban Development Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake said that in Udupi district, only 50 pe cent of the deserving beneficiaries among the minority community had availed the benefits under ‘Arivu Yojana’ scheme.
The minorities in Karnataka are a mere 15.69 per cent. The beneficiaries should come forward to avail the benefits of the development programmes initiated by the government.
Tthe minister said that as many as 2,267 beneficiaries were given away the benefits worth Rs 395.98 lakh in 2014-15 fiscal. The benefits were distributed under schemes like ‘Swalambana Yojana’, ‘Shramashakthi’, ‘micro financing’, ‘Ganga Kalyana Yojana’ and ‘Arivu’. The target in the district is to reach out to 2,408 beneficiaries. The amount allotted for the purpose is Rs 564.05 lakh. However, only 50 per cent of the beneficiaries could be reached under ‘Arivu Yojana’. Sorake said more and more students should come forward to avail the benefits of Arivu Yojana. The minister felt there is an urgent need for measures to bring the minorities’ community to the fore-front of the society and State government is committed to their overall development.
He said in State, until recently the amount earmarked for the development programmes of minorities was Rs 7,000 crore and currently it has crossed Rs 15,000 crore target. In Kaup assembly constituency, Rs 108.45 lakh has been released for 613 beneficiaries, Sorake added. he stated that minorities must participate better for their own good.
