Mangaluru, Aug 15, 2016: The extended Moras family and parishioners of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Kuppepadav will celebrate the platinum birthday celebration of their celebrated son - Most Rev Bernard Blasius Moras at Kuppepadav on August 16.
Joseph Moras, nephew of the Archbishop told media that around 10 Bishops from all over Karnataka will attend the thanksgiving Holy Mass that will be celebrated at the Church at 10am. Socio-political and religious leaders from all over the state will join in a public felicitation arranged for the Archbishop after the mass, he said adding arrangements are already underway to host the large number of people expected for the event.
Most Rev Bernad Moras currently is the Archbishop of Bengaluru and celebrated his 75 th birthday in Bengaluru on August 10. Most Rev Bernard Moras will complete 50-years of his priestly ordination on December 6 this year and complete two decades as a Bishop on February 25, 2017 having been elevated to that post on February 25, 1997. Most Rev Bernard Moras was appointed as Bishop of Belagavi Diocese on December 31, 1996 and took charge two months later. He served in that post for nearly seven years taking up various development works during his tenure.
On his elevation as the Archbishop in 2004, Most Rev Bernard Moras took on himself the task of finding solution to vexing language issue confronting the Church. He ensured implementation of 16 projects as espoused in a regional implementation project prepared under his leadership in 2000. He started Asha, an institution that worked for the rural poor children that enabled many students to continue their education and allowed others to reside in hostels to do so.
Born the fifth child of Francis Moras and Monteen Rodrigues, after his priestly ordination under then Bishop Basil D’Souza, Most Rev Bernard Moras has served in various capacities in institutions in the city and outside. His first assignment was as the assistant director of St Antony’s Home at Jeppu from 1968 to 1970. He was the administrator of St John’s Medical College, Bengaluru from 1980 to 1991. He also served twice as the director of Fr Muller Medical College and Hospital Mangaluru city.
