Antique idols of Jain Tirthankaras seized; 5 arrested

Kundapur, Feb 25, 2018: Kundapur police have arrested five persons and recovered four ancient idols of Jain Tirthankaras worth several crores of rupees. The arrest followed a raid at a place close by the Koteshwara Kotilingeshwara Shrine on February 24, Saturday.
Those arrested are Nevill Wilfy Mascarenhas from Padil, Mangaluru, Anil Furtado from Talaguppa in Shivamogga district, Ashton Sequeira from Kulshekar, Mangaluru, John and Anila from Koteshwara. The police arrested the accused when they tried to flee instead of giving satisfactory reply. On inspection of their car, the idols were found hidden under the seat.
The car, a cash counting machine, Rs 40,000 cash and cell phones have been seized from the accused.
