Anti-Yettinahole activists come under one umbrella; plan Rasta Roko, Jail Bharo on Oct 15

Mangaluru, Oct 02, 2015: In a welcome development, all organisations which are opposed to the controversial Yettinahole Integrated Drinking Water Project, have now come together under one umbrella to fight for the common cause. The Netravathi Nadhi Samrakshana Okkoota has now been formed with Dr Niranjan Rai as Convenor to unitedly fight against the implementation of the project.

 

 

Speaking to reporters in the city on October 2, Friday, Dr Niranjan Rai said the Okkoota will be organising a Rasta Roko and Jail Bharo agitation at the Mahaveer Circle on October 15. He said anti-Yettinahole protestors from across DK and Udupi districts will participate in the protest.

He also urged all Taluk Panchayats and Gram Panchayats of the district to pass resolutions against the project lest the Okkoota will stage protest against the Panchayats. He further alleged that works on the Yettinahole Project were continuing despite a temporary stay to the project works by the National Green Tribunal.

Dinesh Holla of Sahyadri Samrakshana Sanchaya who also spoke  said the  Okkoota will put up as many as 1000 banners in private properties to sensitise the public regarding the project.
Another activist Shashidhar Shetty said  a team from the district will visit Kolar And Chikkaballapur to  create awareness among the people that the Yettinahole project only aimed at fooling them. Similarly, a team from the two places will visit DK to know the impact of the project, he added.
