Mangalore, Sep 29, 2014 : Sri Gokarnanatha Temple at Kudroli in Mangalore which is celebrating Dasara with grandeur, has on September 29, Monday created another landmark when it appointed two widows belonging to SC/ST community as the Temple Priests. Here it is worth mentioning that the Temple had appointed two widow priests last year winning much acclaim.
This time, Chandravathi from Ranipur and Lakshmi from Chilimbi have been bestowed the honour of serving the historic and century old shrine as its priests. The two new priests were received at the Temple entrance by several temple committee leaders including former union minister B Janardhana Poojary.They were taken inside the temple premises in a procession. They later performed pooja and distributed prasadam to the devotees gathered at the temple.
Speaking on the occasion, Janardhana Poojary said the Temple by appointing women priests from SC ST community wants to give equal rights to women. The priests would be allowed to perform all rituals in the temple without any discrimination and with due respect to the principles and ideals advocated by Brahmashree Narayana Guru, he said.
