Ankola shocked over BJP leader’s murder

Ankola, Dec 22, 2013:  Tension prevailed in the town of Ankola on December 21, Saturday after a  BJP leader and a mining businessman named R.N. Naik was gunned down by four assailants near the bus stand in the town. Naik’s gun man managed to shoot dead one of the assailants while another was trapped by the public. Two others escaped from the place.

R.N. Naik who  came out of his office in the town had just entered his car when he was fired at. The bullet which passed through the windshield of the car hit Naik on his chest. He was immediately rushed to the hospital but was declared brought dead.

His security man was also injured in the incident.  Soon after the incident, all shops in the town downed their shutters. There was tension in the air and security was stepped up.

Police suspect the killing to be the handiwork of underworld don Ravi Poojari aides. Sources say the car of the assailants has been traced. Senior police officials are camping in Ankola and police have launched a search for the remaining two assailants who are at large.
