Mangalore, Feb 15: There is a need for a spiritual awakening in this scientific age when man is becoming a slave of vices, said Mata Amritanandamayi.
She was addressing her devotees at a Bhajans and Satsang programme held at the Brahmasthanam premises at Bolur in the city on February 15, Saturday. Expressing her concern over the degrading moral values in the society, she said man instead of realizing his shortcomings and weaknesses preferred to defend himself. Life becomes beautiful when there is love and harmony, Mata Amritanandamayi said.
Deploring the rise in cases of atrocities on women, youth going astray and senior citizens getting abandoned, Mata Amritanandamayi who is fondly termed ‘Amma’ by her followers said what we see at present is a mere clash of interests rather than attempts to solve the problems.
Delving on the field of education, she stressed the need for spiritual education. Children must be taught the values of life, she added.
Matha Amritanandamayi launched the Amrita Swavalambi Grama Yojana scheme of the Amritanandamayi Mutt. She also distributed laptops to students and financial aid to 75 students belonging to economically backward families.
Prof. M.B.Puranik, Chairman of Sharada educational institutions, Pushparaj Jain, President of CREDAI, Gurukiran, famous music director, N Yogish Bhat, former MLA, Lt. Col. N.S. Mallik, entrepreneur Rammohan Shenoy and others were present.
