Alleged offensive remarks by teacher: Congress demands thorough probe

Mangaluru, Feb 13, 2024: A delegation of the Congress party led by former ministers Ramanatha Rai and Vinaykumar Sorake visited the St Gerosa School in Mangaluru following the recent incident wherein a teacher was suspended after she allegedly made an offensive remarks against Hindu religion. The Congress has demanded a fact-finding investigation by the Education Department.

The Congress leaders spoke to reporters after  discussing the issue with the school management.

Ramanatha Rai said there needs to be an impartial probe into this incident which is feared  to affect communal harmony.

He said the statements of the students and also the use of children for protest in this case must be probed and measures must be taken to ensure such incidents do not recur.

KPCC Spokesperson Farzana who too was part of the delegation said the incident has resulted in a situation wherein police protection has to be provided to the school. During the visit the delegation came to know that the teacher concerned had said that  Gods must be in our hearts while speaking on the Work is Worship poem of Rabindranath Tagore, she said adding the local MLA had even instigated the students to raise Jai Shri Ram slogans. “This is condemnable. At the same time if the teacher too has said something objectionable regarding any religion, that too is condemnable, she said.

Party leaders J R Lobo, Mamatha Gatti, Shashidhar Hegde, Shahul Hameed, Shalet Pinto, Bhasker  Moily, Vishwas Das were part of the delegation.
