Mangaluru, March 03, 2015: A truck transporting rice was intercepted by members of a Hindu organisation at Maroli in the city on March 2 on the grounds that the rice was being illegally transported.
It is said the activists alleged that the truck driver had no valid document including bill for the rice loaded in the lorry. Sources said the truck was intercepted as soon as it proceeded from the government godown at Maroli after loading the rice.
According to one source, the activists informed the police about the illegal activity after the driver offered them as much as Rs 50,000 to avoid getting trapped.
The Kadri police seized the truck and found that it had 60 bags of rice. But it is yet to be known whether the rice was being transported authorisedly or unauthorisedly.
The driver has been taken to custody and it has been gathered that the lorry was heading towards Bantwal.
