Allegations of land grab against Bishop sparks debate

Mangaluru, Jan 30, 2018 : The order issued by  Upa Lokayukta Subhash B Adi to  the Assistant Commissioner during a public grievance redressal meet  here  on Sunday,  to investigate into the allegation that the Bishop of Mangaluru Diocese Rev Fr Aloysius  Paul D’Souza has  encroached  hundreds of acres of land  in Attavar and Jeppu, has  kicked off a debate even in social media.

 

Over a hundred residents of Jeppu and Attavar who were present at the  meeting alleged that  efforts were underway to evict those residing in Government Paramboku land.

The Upa Lokayukta  ordered the assistant commissioner and tahsildar to verify the land records of properties belonging to Mangalore Diocese under  Bishop Rev Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza and    to look into the residential rights of the  complainants. He has also directed the officials  to submit a report within 20 days.
