Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, April 4, 2016 :The DK DC Adoor B Ibrahim has reportedly directed the toll plaza contract firm, Indrajith Company, to change all the staff at the toll plaza.   He has also ordered that appointment of staff who have undergone training be made from outside the district, within 15 days.

DC AdoorIn the backdrop of the free for all brawl that ensued between the toll plaza staff and private bus employees at the NITK toll plaza on Friday, the deputy commissioner convened a meeting, along with City Police Commissioner M Chandra Sekhar, the toll plaza contractor, the local elected representatives and members of various organisations, on Saturday.

DC Ibrahim said that by April 30, the police verification of all the newly appointed staff should be completed. An individual with criminal background should not be appointed at the toll plaza, he reminded.   The officer said that all staff at the toll plaza should wear uniforms and badge.

“The contract firm should issue an identity card to all the staff. One can not appoint private security agency staff in the name of security at toll plaza. Lethal weapons – including guns – are not permitted to be kept at the toll plaza,” he ordered.

He also directed Indrajith Company representative Uday Singh to provide the salary, PF and other benefits to the employees as per the labour laws. “High resolution CCTV camera should be installed. The CCTV camera should be able to capture footage of the entire area. It should also be connected to the Suratkal police station control room. In case of an emergency, the toll plaza staff should seek police protection and not depend on private individuals,” the DC said.

Contractor requests time  :  Uday Singh, however, refuted the charges and said that the staff at the toll plaza are not outsourced, but recruited by the company. Locals were also recruited at the toll plaza in Suratkal, he added.

Singh sought time from the deputy commissioner to distribute uniforms, badges and ID cards to the staff as per the guidelines of the NHAI.

Bus Owners’ Association President Durgaprasad Hegde said that the monthly pass amount for 35 buses travelling to Kinnigoli should be reduced. “The monthly pass fare on the route is fixed at Rs 5,100, which will be a huge burden on the,” he said.

The DC, however, refused to issue any guidelines and asked the president to find a solution by holding talks with the contractor.   ACP (North Division) Madan Gaonkar said that both the toll plaza staff and the bus staff were responsible for the brawl on Friday. “Several cases related to assault at the toll plaza was registered. The contractor has failed to follow the guideline of collecting conduct certificate from the police on the staff at the toll plaza,” said the officer.   NHAI Engineer Ajith Kumar said that the NHAI had directed to submit a report on the brawl that took place at the Suratkal toll plaza.  A detailed report has already been submitted to the NHAI, it is stated.

The public is not satisfied with the collection of tolls because the construction roads work on these roads are not completed. There is diversion here and there and very risky to travel until it complete. Later they may collect but not now

Unless the roads are neatly done with proper footpaths the DC should ban the company from collecting the toll. The toll rate is too high compared to B.C.Road Toll?

The DC’s orders have to be followed by the company’s in charge of toll collection. They have to be provide uniforms and badges so that the public will identify them without any confusion.
