Airport diamond jubilee celebrations - Palemar inaugurates cultural event

Mangalore, July 18: Krishna J. Palemar, the district-in-charge minister, inaugurated Sanskrathika Kalothsava 2011, a 5-day cultural extravaganza organized by the Mangalore Airport Diamond Jubilee Celebration Committee as part of the diamond jubilee celebrations of Mangalore Airport at Town Hall on July 18 Monday.

 

 

In his inaugural address, Palemar said that Mangalore Airport is an internationally acclaimed airport. Lauding late Ullal Shrinivas Mallya for establishing an airport in Mangalore 60 years back, he said that work on developing the airport further began only recently. 

Stating that 40 planes land and take off at Mangalore International Airport at present, he said that Rs. 175 crore is required to develop Mangalore Airport as an international airport. He also said that efforts are being made to get 25 percent of these funds from the state government and 75 percent from the central government. He also said that celebrations such as these will help in the development of the airport. 

Speaking on the occasion, Mangalore International Airport Director M. R. Vasudeva said that the airport now has a number of facilities such as an air control service and a modern tele communication system that people do not know much about.

Presiding over the event, N. Yogesh Bhat said that the development of the airport was one of the issues discussed during the pre budget meet with the chief minister. He said that the Mangalore Airport will definitely become an international airport if the runway is extended to 9000ft with 100ft dept. If the airport develops, DK will soon become a tourist hotspot. 

Shrivastav, the joint manager of the Airport Authority, was the chief guest of the event. 

K. Thejomaya, the coordinator of Mangalore Airport Diamond Jubilee Celebration, and Seetharam Kulal, the president of Samskrithika Kalothsava Samithi, were among the dignitaries on the dais.
