Mangaluru, June 2, 2016: The gates of the Thumbay vented dam were opened on May31, Tuesday and June 1, Wednesday and the water released into the sea in the wake of the increase in inflow of water to the dam, thanks to the heavy rains the district received since May 31.
MCC officials have informed that 70 sluice gates of the dam were opened on Wednesday while 134 gates at higher altitude were opened on Tuesday to ensure that there was no overflow of water from the dam.
It has also been gathered that there were plans to open all gates of the dam if there is further inflow of water, so that silt does not accumulate in the dam.
Meanwhile, water level at Baje dam across Swarna river in Udupi is yet to rise and water is still being supplied through tankers to affected aresas.
