Mangalore, Feb 9, 2014: Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel’s plans to visit the tension-hit Ullal on February 9, Sunday were foiled when the police prevented him from entering Ullal. Sources said the MP who was upset over the decision of the cops even entered into a verbal duel with the police.
It may be mentioned here that the ADGP MN Reddy who was in Ullal recently to monitor the situation had told in clear-cut terms that no political or religious leader would be allowed to enter Ullal in order to ensure peace in the area. The Police had recently even stopped Pejawar Swamiji from visiting Ullal.
However, on Sunday, MP Nalin Kumar who arrived in the city from Delhi after attending the Parliament session,, headed straight towards Ullal along with MLC Monappa Bhandari. However, the vehicle carrying the two leaders was stopped at the Thokkottu over-bridge by the DCP and ACP.
When the MP was unrelenting, the police officials asked him to contact the Commissioner. The MP did so and the Commissioner asked him not to visit Ullal until Section 144 was lifted. The MP had no other go but to return.
