Mangalore, Nov.27: Noted actress Jennifer Kotwal launched  Photon+, the high speed wireless broadband service by Tata Teleservices, in Mangalore on November 27, Friday.

The company claims that this service will provide speeds of a maximum of 3.2 Mbps, and average browsing speeds of 700 kbps and above. At this point in time, the high speed service is available in Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, and certain north-eastern states, but Mr. Sanjeev Khera, Regional Head – South & Circle Operating officer – Karnataka Circle, Tata Teleservices Ltd., stated that Tata Teleservices intends to cover  ten more cities in Karnataka by the first week of December, and over forty cities by 2010.

Two devices have been launched under the Photon+ brand. The first is a USB dongle that costs Rs. 3,500 and comes with three tariff plans. The cheapest is Rs. 700 for 0.5 GB of data, and there’s an unlimited plan at Rs. 1,500 per month. The second device is a combined modem-cum-wireless router, aimed at SME’s and business users. This device does not have any unlimited plans on offer.




The awareness and demand for wireless Internet connectivity is increasing rapidly and with laptop and PC sales showing exponential growth, there is a huge demand for wireless high-speed Internet access, Photon+ mobile broadband service allows customers to be connected not only for mails, but also for downloads, large files uploads, photo sharing, etc. It also allows users to send and receive SMS and is compatible with both laptops and desktop PCs.

 



When the devices were tested at the launch,  speeds ranged between 700 kb to 1.3 Mbps. Video streaming from NDTV, BBC, Youtube, and CNN worked with practically no buffering as well. Browsing was quite fast.
The Device is available with the Tata Telecom Dealers in Mangalore.
