Kota, April 28, 2014 : Police have arrested four persons who attempted to rob the ATM of Corporation Bank at Sastan Pandeshwar. All the four were brought to the ATM kiosk as part of the investigation on April 26, Saturday.
Those arrested are Krishna Saligrama (23) of Parampally, Srinath (26) of Gundmi, Ashok (29) and Chandra (25) of Hangarakatte.
On December 9 last year the accused after damaging the CC Camera, tube lights of the ATM kiosk had tried to break open the machinery.
Sastan resident Arun Luis who had arrived to draw cash, on seeing the half down rolling shutter, enquired with the nearby shop keeper. He later lifted the rolling shutter and came to know of the dacoity attempt.
The police could not arrest the accused immediately as the CCTV footages were not clear. The canine squad had traced a rod on a nearby road.
It has been gathered that the accused used to fill the petrol tanks of their bike in the morning and move around in rural areas and rob lone women after stopping them on the pretext of enquiring about some address. Just two months ago, they had attacked an elderly lady at Kajarahalli near Sabarakatte and had robbed her ear rings after slashing her ears.
It is learnt, they planned to rob the ATM to become rich instantly. They had parked their car near the Cyrian Church premises and left the car driver Chandra in the car. But as soon as they started breaking the ATM machinery, they heard a dog bark and lights switched on in a nearby house. The driver immediately switched on the car light and the accused sensing danger had discarded the rod and fled the place.
The police could track down the accused on the basis of a broken number plate of a bike which they had found at Kajarahalli.
