Aadhaar enrolment : 4 day drive at Town hall in city

Mangaluru, Dec 05 2017: A four-day (Dec 4-7) special Aadhaar enrolment drive has commenced got under way at Town Hall here on Monday. DK ADC Kumar inaugurated the drive that will be held from 10am to 5.30pm.   Six counters have been set up and each counter can handle around 30 persons a day.

 

This special drive is seen to be a good facility for people here and will get a good response too. On the opening day, Dec 4, Monday, at least 220 people had come for Aadhaar. The authorities issued 900 tokens to streamline the Aadhaar registration process over the next 3 days, Khader Shah, senior assistant director, department of information and public relations, said.


In view of additional rush that the special drive saw on the opening day and people landing at the registration venue, DK DC Sasikanth Senthil directed that a special counter will be opened in the DC’s office premises to go with the regular counter already functional there. This counter will handle Aadhaar registrations of 440 persons to whom tokens have been issued, Khader Shah added.

However, one local citizen pointed out though this is a good initiative planned in well in advance,  this  special drive does not cater to the ’super aged’, say those above 85 or so and unable to move out of bed/room and also are not cohesive enough to present documentation and details.  A suitable arrangement to make a survey and tabulate the needy elders and prescribe a mechanism to see that even this segment of the people who are good number in DK get due attention. This needs a dedicated regulator to handle regularly.
