Aadhaar centres suspend registrations till July

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, April 19, 2015 : According to reports,  Aadhaar card seekers will have to wait for about two months to get their unique identification number, as registration centres have stopped issuing tokens.

Sadashiva PrabuThe process is expected to resume on July 6 from ’MangaloreOne’ centre  Light House Hill. The same is the case with ’MangaloreOne’ centre in the MCC building. Fresh tokens will be issued here on June 25 and only those who reach the centre during the wee hours will be able to get one. The situation is the same at Thokkottu, Shivbagh, Surathkal, and taluk office centres.

A population of over five lakhs  has only five UID registration centres in the city of Mangaluru. These centres are equipped with just one computer each, on an average, they complete 35 to 40 registrations in a day. Many parents are worried, as schools have asked them to register their wards for Aadhaar card during the summer holidays.

One  teacher is supposed to have said: They should open more centres with sufficient number of computers and technicians. Since it is summer vacation , now is the best time for parents to take their children for UID registration. DK  Additional deputy commissioner J Sadashiva Prabhu said that another agency will be appointed to carry out Aadhaar registration process in the city.  Some parents also feel why not the  registration for children in education centers be  taken up in each institution as the teams could set up the system there.
