Mangaluru, Oct 18, 2017: The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) honoured members at its annual AHIMA Triumph Awards ceremony which was held recently. 


Varadraj PrabThe awards recognize the excellence, dedication, and service of health information management (HIM) professionals whose work has enriched the field. The awards were presented at AHIMA’s 89th Annual Convention and Exhibit in Los Angeles.
“The Triumph Awards recognize individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the health information management profession,” said AHIMA interim CEO Pamela Lane, MS, RHIA. “Their work reflects the best of our industry, and AHIMA is proud to tell their stories.”

This year, AHIMA conferred Varadraj Prabhu Gurupur, PhD, MS, RHIA, with the 2017 Research Triumph Award. The Research Award honours those individuals who have made an outstanding contribution
to original and applied HIM research.Dr. Gurupur’s area of research in improving the data science and knowledge management aspects of decision support systems for healthcare and education made him worthy of the honours. Dr. Gurupur has more than 85 publications that include journal articles, papers, abstracts, published reviews, posters, book chapters and special issues with reputable journals. He received his PhD in computer engineering in 2010 and a Masters of Science in Computer Science in 2005 from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.   Dr Varadraj Prabhu G hails from Mangaluru. He completed his Schooling and Engineering in Mangaluru and is an alumnus of Mangalore University.
