Mangaluru, Aug 25, 2015: A programme of the Karavali Utsava will be organised on the banks of the Nandini River at Pavanje, to make the children aware of the customs of yesteryears.

Abahayachandra...The customs of the people in coastal areas highlights the relationship between the seas and rivers, said Minister for Sports, Youth Empowerment and Fisheries K Abahayachandra Jain.   Speaking after inaugurating the ’Thude Thulipu’ organised by Agoli Manjanna Janapada Kenda and Press Club in Mulki, on the banks of the Nandini River.

Minister Jain went on to say that opportunities for popularising tourism in the district need to be encashed.  The seminar was inaugurated by releasing a frog into the river. Discussions were held on two moving boats that were also joined.  The boats sailed  from Kattapuni and passing thorough Adepuda Kandevu and Kattada Mane, before landing at Chelairu. Intellectuals, writers and social activists spoke on the significance of rains and about the protection of rivers.

Agoli Manjanna Janapada Kendra President Ganesh Amin Sankamar said, "Our ancestors shared a special bond with rivers and they respected them. But, today, the respect is lost as the standard of living has risen."

K Anand said that nature itself is a great institution and expressed a need to implement stern laws for the protection of natural resources.   Social activist Vidya Dinakar, folk expert Dr Y N Shetty, Kannada Sahitya Parishat former president Harikrishna Punaroor, Haleyangadi Gram Panchayat President Jalaja and others took part.
