Mangaluru, January 28: A large branch of the good old Banyan tree at Hampankatta near Ideal Ice cream parlor falls on a running bus this morning, January 28, 2019. No casualties reported. But of the bus a lot of people who used move around on this area would have been hurt by the freak accident.

 

Incidentlly, this Banyan tree is revered by the people around this. The name ‘Hampankatta’ originated from the platform build around this tree. It was known as  ‘Appanna Katte” Later it turned out to be the Hampankatta.

People used offer prayers and puja on this tree on auspicious occasions of the Sharavu Ganapathi Temple, Mangaluru .
