Mangaluru, Oct 20, 2015: At least five persons were injured following clashes between members of two communities at Chitrapur near Suratkal on October 18  over the issue of girls belonging to different communities meeting each other.

Sources revealed that two girls belonging to one  particular community used to often visit a shop at Chitrapur where three of their female friends  used to work.  However,  this was objected by locals on the grounds that the girls even used to talk to the shop owner who belonged to another community.

It is said on October 19, Monday evening too the girls had visited the shop when objections were again raised. Very soon arguments and counter arguments resulted in a clash  in which five persons sustained injuries.

The Suratkal police who rushed to the spot managed to bring the situation under control.

 Two of the injured namely Bharath  and Pushparaj have been admitted to a private hospital in Suratkal while three others  namely Samshuddin, Altaf and Ajmal are undergoing treatment at a hospital in Mangaluru.

Former MLA of Suratkal and former minister Krishna Palemar met the injured Bharath and Pushparaj un the hospital.

Investigations are underway.
