Mangaluru, August 15, 2018: The 72nd Independence Day was celebrated at Nehru Maidan on August 15, Wednesday with DK District in-charge Minister and State Minister for Urban Development and Housing U T Khader hoisting the national tri-colour. He received the guard of honour on the occasion.
In his Independence Day address, Khader said India has witnessed giant strides in various fields and that the whole world was watching with awe the tremendous youth power as well as the human resources of the nation.
The Karnataka government is committed to work for the welfare of each and every district, he said. Khader also highlighted the educational excellence of the district and exhorted the people to spread the message of unity and harmony by drawing inspiration from the valiant freedom fighters of the land. No scope should be given to anyone to disrupt unity, he said.
The attractive parade was participated by two police band troops and 19 platoons and was led by Vittal Shindhe of Dakshina Kannada Armed Police.
The first prize in the parade was bagged by NCC Air Wing senior troop while the second place went to NCC Naval wing senior troop.
Khader planted a sapling to mark the launch of district level Green Karnataka programme.
Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil, City Police Commissioner T R Suresh, Mangaluru Bishop Rev Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and others were present.
