Mangaluru, March 18, 2020:   Seven patients with symptoms of Covid-19 have been admitted to government hospital for observation in Dakshina Kannada district.

A total of 456 patients were screened in the district for the Covid-19 on Tuesday. As many as 241 people are home quarantined in the district and eight people have completed quarantine period.

Out of 14 samples sent for testing, 10 have tested negative in the district, said Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh.

‘Follow guidelines’

She said that all the religious heads in the district were contacted and urged to create awareness on Covid-19. All the guidelines issued by the government to check the spread of coronavirus should be adhered to strictly.

The organisers have been asked to postpone Yakshagana programmes in the district till a certain period. All those who have returned from foreign countries should remain quarantined at their houses.

A team of officials and staff of health department had visited 2,047 houses in the district till now, to collect information on the people, who had returned from foreign countries.

A man, who had arrived from Dubai to Mangalore International Airport and was tested positive in Kasargod, was screened at the airport on March 14. All the co-passengers, who travelled with him have been contacted and have been directed to remain quarantined at home.

A team of officers from health department will visit the houses of all those passengers who had arrived in the flight Air India Express IX 814 and monitor their health, the DC stated.

Sindhu said as per the directions of the Central government, all the passengers who arrived from Qatar, Oman and Kuwait should remain quarantined mandatorily for 14 days.

A few of the passengers who have symptoms will be kept under observation. All the passengers and their family members who arrived in Mangaluru should cooperate in this regard.


Five suspected cases in Udupi district


Five suspected Covid-19 cases were reported in Udupi district on Tuesday.The persons suspected to be affected by the disease were admitted to the District Government Hospital in Ajjarakad, Udupi.

Out of five suspected persons, three had traveled to Dubai. All of them had displayed symptoms like fever and cough.

One passenger, who had traveled to Qatar, had symptoms of severe head ache and fever. Another passenger, who had traveled to Kuwait, was having cough and sore throat.

The throat swabs of all the five suspected patients have been sent to the laboratory in Shivamogga for test on Tuesday.

District Health Officer Dr Sudhirchandra Sooda said the results were expected on Wednesday.

He said that in all 152 persons were house quarantined in the district so far. As many as 18 of them had completed their house quarantine.
