Moodbidri, June 26, 2014: The police have arrested seven persons who were engaged in stealing black pepper worth Rs 8.5 lakh, from a godown at Handeli in Moodbidri. The godown is owned by Mukhesh Kumar Patel, a native of Gujarat.
The arrested are Yogiraj (23) of Nellikar, Naveen (30) of Valpady, Yogish Salian (26) of kairgundi, Sukesh Shetty (23), Harish Poojary (26) of Kallamundkoor, Prathap Rai (23) of Pallathadka, and Mahesh (20) of Kotebagilu. The police have seized vehicles, lethal weapons used for stealing the pepper.
The police had arrested Sukesh Shetty, driver of the vehicle on the grounds of suspicion and during the interrogation, he revealed the names of other accused. They had stored the stolen pepper in a house at HUDCO colony. The same gang had made an attempt to steal from the house of actress Radhika in Salethoor. Yogiraj was the prime accused in the murder of tailor Shekar Poojary, four years ago in Valpady.
All the arrested were produced before the court which remanded them for 15 days of judicial custody.
