Although the use of vacuum horns that emanates shrill noise is banned under the Motor Vehicles Act and Rules, operators had been using them.
The City Police Commissioner had been receiving complaints from citizens during all the phone-in programme every week on the use of shrill horns.
A team led by ACP (Traffic) Manjunath Shetty carried out a special drive to check shrill horns in the buses in front of RTO office in Mangaluru. All buses travelling on the stretch were inspected. As many as 34 buses were found using shrill horns and have been seized and parked at Nehru Maidan.
