Mangaluru, Dec 28, 2015: Ramakrishna Mission carried out the 32nd Swachh Mangaluru Abhiyan in Light House Hill Road area Sunday. Swami Anupmanandaji, head, Ramakrishna Mission, Tirupati and M R Vasudeva, former director, Airports Authority of India flagged off the drive in the presence of Swami Jitakamanandaji, president, Ramakrsihna Math.
Participants in the Youth Camp at Ramakrishna Math, volunteers from Nivedita Balaga under Rathna Alva and Sheela Shetty, Bharathi Bhat, K V Sathyanarayana, Sujith Pratap, Ramkumar Bekal, Suresh Shetty, Nikhil Shetty, Dilraj Alva and several other eminent persons and about 150 volunteers participated in the abhiyan. MRPL, Principal Patron of the event sponsored the drive.
Light House Hill road was cleaned and refreshed under the guidance of Swamijis and Vasudeva. Volunteers were divided into six groups who cleaned areas from Hampankatta to Light House Hill Road, circle in front of Jos Alukkas, Balmatta Road and road leading from Light House Hill. The roads and road dividers were thoroughly cleaned of garbage and weeds using grass cutting machine.
Commendable resolve to keep city clean : Footpaths were also cleared off debris and garbage helping the pedestrians. Circle in front of Jos Alukkas on Light House Hill Road was converted into a dumping place. Volunteers cleaned the circle and painted the pedestal of the circle giving it new look. The road dividers were also painted. Direction boards at Light House Hill Road, Hampankatta circle and Milagres Roads were cleaned and painted giving a much needed facelift.
The circle in front of St Agnes College which was cleaned during previous weeks were painted with beautiful drawings by artists belonging to Isiri Art. Volunteers also distributed handbills on Swachh Mangaluru Abhiyan to generate awareness among the localites in the area.
