Bantwal, Jul 27: A 30-year-old bridge, linking Amtoor and its neighbouring villages in Bantwal, collapsed on July 25. Although the media had reported the pathetic condition of the bridge repeatedly, the authorities concerned were least bothered about repairing it.

District-in-charge Minister Krishna J. Palemar inspected the bridge and said that the bridge collapsed because it did not get the required repairs. The bridge was widely used by students, local farmers, and the general public. Even DC Dr. Channappa Gowda visited the collapsed bridge.

Padmanabha Kottari, the former MLA; Sulochana G. K. Bhat, the chairman of the Karnataka Bala Bhavan Society; Monappa Devasya, the president of the Goltamajal Gram Panchayat; Dinesh Amtoor, the vice president of the Taluk Panchayat; PWD engineers; and other officers were also present.

Addressing the local people on July 26 Tuesday, MLA Ramanath Rai, who inspected the collapsed bridge with Mamatha Gatti and Chandraprakash Shetty, the ZP members, said that a proposal to construct a brand new bridge under the NABARD project has been sent to the state government.
