28 qualify for national-level Konkani poetry recitation competition

Mangalore, Nov 15, 2012 : A total of 28 participants from Karnataka and Goa have qualified to take part in the finals of the Rohan and Lavita Monteiro All India Konkani Poetry Reciting Competition, scheduled to be held in Thumbe, Bantwal on Jan 13, 2013 as part of Kavita Fest, an annual event organized by Kavita Trust.

The prelims were held in Panaji and Margao in association with Konkani Bhasha Mandal in Goa; in Mangalore in association with Mandd Sobhann; and in Udupi in association with Mother of Sorrows Church.

The main convener of the event was Vithori Karkal and the judges were Averyl Rodrigues, William Pais, Andrew L. D’Cunha, and Kishoo Barkur. The prelims were held at T. B. Cunha Hall in Panaji and Konkani Bhasha Mandal Hall in Margao. At both venues, Chetan Acharya, president of the Konkani Bhasha Mandal, welcomed the gathering and Melwyn Rodrigues, president of Kavita Trust, explained the competition’s rules and regulations.

Each participant was giving 1.5 – 3 minutes to recite either his/her own poem or someone else’s poem.

Here is the list of finalists: Vishwa Pratap Pawar, Sushmita Pai, Aniket Arjun, Mangesh P, Vevali DSouza, Ranjita Gosavi, Milindra G Velip, Siddhi T Shet Raikar, Hyacint Monteiro, Vaishnavi M, Kajol Naik, Hetal Shah, Suvina Palkar, Purna Gaonkar, Reshma Surlekar, Katyayini Ghatwal, Yuga Adarkar, Varsha Kavlekar and Nikita Bhonsle (all from Goa), Amora Monteiro, Roshni Goveas, Priya Suman Baretto, Jaison J Sequeira, Clement Fernandes, Privil Raj Rodrigues (all from Mangalore), Amrita D’Silva, Raina Rodrigues and Lavita Pinto (all from Udupi).
