Puttur, Aug 11, 2015: Shiradi Ghat witnessed a gory accident that claimed the lives of two women, on the very first day when the concreted stretch of road was declared open for traffic on August 10. The accident however took place a little away from the newly laid road.
The mishap occurred when a speeding tanker heading towards Mangaluru from Bengaluru collided head on with a jeep near Addahole. The jeep was on way to Sakleshpur. Rukmini (35), wife of Vishwanath, a resident of Perje and Bhavani (40), wife of late Guddappa, were killed in the mishap. Both the women were relatives. The jeep driver Chandrashekhar, Sr Nisha and Lily who were injured have been admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru while another injured person named Vishwanath has been admitted to Uppinangady hospital.
A case has been registered by Puttur Police.
