Mangaluru, Oct 30, 2015: Customs officials at the Mangaluru International Airport have seized gold powder weighing approximately 2 kg from two persons who arrived by a flight from Dubai on October 28, Tuesday. They had hidden the gold valued at nearly Rs 53 lakhs in shampoo, toothpastes, Tang powder, creams and other items to evade the watchful eyes of the customs officials but had failed in their attempt.
The customs officials who found the duo behaving suspiciously had questioned them. However, when they could not give satisfactory answers the officials checked their baggages when gold was found hidden inside consumer items.
The passengers whose identities are yet to be revealed were later arrested and produced before the Principal Civil Judge (Senior Division) and Chief Judicial Magistrate, Mangaluru. Both have been remanded to judicial custody for 15 days.
Investigations are underway.
