2 constables land in hospital after being thrashed by drunken men

Mangalore, May 28, 2013: Two head constables have landed in hospital with injuries after they were beaten up by a group of men who were in drunken stupor at Alake near Kudroli here  late night on May 26, Sunday.

The incident took place when the police control room received a call at around 1.10 am that some drunken people were causing nuisance in the dead of the night. The case was referred to Bunder police and two head constables namely Damodar and Ishwar Swamy rushed to the place in the PCR vehicle. 

When they enquired what was happening, the drunken men  began abusing the cops and even held the collars of one of them. Even as the cops explained that they had received a complaint, the drunken men snatched their lathis and began hitting them.

First it was Damodar who fell victim and as Ishwar Swamy rushed to his rescue even he was assaulted. The group then fled in two cars.City Central ACP Kavitha and others visited the victims in the hospital.

Sources in the police department informed that the assailants have been identified and will soon be arrested. One of them is learnt to be a newly elected corporator.
