Mangaluru, Aug 14, 2015: Fishing crew of vessel ‘Divine Spirit’ were rescued from the sea and brought to New Mangalore Port by India Coastguard. The 10 crew members were stranded due to rough seas.
Ahead of the Independence Day, the Indian Coast Guard headquarters, Mangaluru, has initiated various measures to augment safety and security off the Karnataka coast. Three fast patrol vessels, two hovercrafts and one Dornier plane have been deputed to patrol the seas. An additional aerial and larger sea-going craft are being deployed too.
The commander, Coast Guard, Karnataka, took stock of the situation and oversaw the elaborate plans for the layered safety and security of the State. In a systematic approach, the hovercraft will undertake close coast patrolling, while the ships will be deployed at inner flanks and the Dornier aircraft will cover the extended sea areas. The Remote Operating Station, meanwhile, will provide the required electronic surveillance and ground support.
