Mangalore, May 29: ‘TV Tolls for Teens’ a book authored by noted journalist and correspondent of Deccan Herald, Dr. Ronald Anil Fernandes was released today by Fr. Denis D’sa, administration, Father Muller Medical College at ceremony hosted at Kalaangann, Shaktinagar, Mangalore. Prof. K.V. Nagaraj, Professor and Head, Mass Communication & Journalism Dept., Assam University, Silchar, Assam was the Chief Guest. The guests of honour were Dr. Dominic D. , Associate Professor, Bangalore University PG Centre at Kolar and Dr. M. Byregowda, Publisher, Pragathi Graphics, Bangalore.

 

 

The book is an in-depth study of the relationship between TV media and children. It is adapted from the doctoral thesis of the author, for which he had been awarded a PhD degree by Mangalore University under the guidance of Prof. K.V. Nagaraj.

In his address Fr. Denis D’sa observed that media has become the most powerful influence on society today. Congratulating the author on conducting the study on the impact of TV on youth, he said such study will enable us to understand the phenomenon and take purposeful initiatives for the good of society.

Prof. K. V. Nagaraj expressed his concern over the corporatisation and commercialisation of news and also the disconnect between academics and field journalism. He congratulated the author who is a working journalist for finding time to delve into academics and said that more such people are required to bridge the gap between the classroom and the newsroom.

Being the author’s research guide, Prof. K. V. Nagaraj was subsequently felicitated by Fr. Denis D’sa.
