Mangaluru, Sep 15, 2017: Prof Amrith Someshwara, well known Writer and folk scholar was presented Bhasha Samman Award at KSHEMA Hospital, Deralakatte, on Sept 14, Thursday.

Jnanapith laureate and Kendra Sahitya Academy vice president Dr Chandrashekhar Kambara presented the award to Prof Someshwara. As Someshwara is undergoing treatment at the hospital, he could not make it to the award function. Hence, the award was conferred on him at the hospital.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Kambara said the work of the translation of Tulu Paddana to Kannada by Prof Someshwara was commendable.

Prof Someshwara has many Tulu and Kannada works to his credit, that need to be brought out in volumes. He hoped that Prof Someshwara will recover soon.

Nitte University chancellor N Vinay Hegde said the award conferred on Prof Someshwara is an honour to Tulu folklore and literature.

Receiving the award, Prof Someshwara said he still hopes to serve the Tulu and Kannada literary worlds and recalled the contributions of his kith and kin towards his achievement.

Prof Someshwara’s wife Narmada, Nitte University pro chancellor Dr M Shantaram Shetty, Kendra Sahitya Akademi member Dr Na Damodar Shetty and Folklore University (Haveri) former vice chancellor Dr Chinnappa Gowda were present, among many admirers.
