The officer was speaking at the district-level Kaigarika Spandana committee meeting on Friday.

Senthil said there is a need for a comprehensive plan for the development of industries in the district.

“The plan should look into the place where industries can be set up, marketing facilities and the availability of infrastructure. The vision document should also furnish details on the kind of industries that can be set up in the region,” instructed the deputy commissioner.

The members of the District Small Scale Industries Association said that the local gram panchayat is serving notices to pay property tax for the plot owners at Export Promotion Investment Park (EPIP) at Ganjimutt. As per the Panchayat Act, they have the power to collect 1% of property tax. However, the industries are yet to be set up in the region. The gram panchayat should impose minimum tax for the owners who have purchased the plots at the EPIP, demanded the members.

To this, Senthil promised to write to the gram panchayat about the matter.

Electronic park

Representatives of the industries said that there is a demand to set up an electronic park in Mangaluru.

“There are ample opportunities for an electronic park as the port is situated nearby. About 40 IT companies have forward to develop computer-related firms in the district. Even firms from Korea, Japan and China have shown interest in setting up small firms. Permits should be issued to set up small firms in the SEZ areas,” said the representatives.

The officials at the meeting said that they had discussed the issue of providing basic facilities to the Puttur industrial area with the Puttur City Municipal Council commissioner.

Senthil said that a committee will be constituted to look into the laying a 110 KV line from Nandikuru to Mulki sub-station.

Women entrepreneurs

Gokuldas Nayak, joint director of the District Industries Centre, said that there is a need to denotify MSEZ land in order to set up a women entrepreneur park. The decision will be taken on earmarking 44 acre land near Infosys in Mudipu.

The joint director said that the land has been sought for the setting up of a fire service station at Karnadu industrial area. A proposal has been sent to the higher authorities, he added.

An official informed the meeting that a multi-storeyed industrial complex will be constructed at Yeyyadi and Baikampady on PPP mode. The complex will come up on one-acre land. A detailed project report is being prepared for the purpose.

An officer of the KIADB assured that land will be inspected for acquisition of a 420-acre land at Karnire and Athikaribettu.
