‘North East Crafts Bazaar’ displays varied art crafts of North Eastern regions

Mangalore, Jan 9, 2014: MP Nalin Kumar inaugurates the ‘North East Crafts Bazaar’ organized by the North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation jointly with the Development Commissioner, Ministry of Textiles at Woodlands Hall on Jan 9, Thursday.

Speaking at the press meet, Handlooms Development Corporation officer Jacob D’Souza said that about 100 crafts persons who are engaged in Handlooms and Handicrafts representing the North Eastern eight states of the countries take part in the exhibition to be held from Jan 9 to Jan 22.


He also said that the exhibition will present the endless array of crafts creations from beauty loving and artistic people of eight sister states of North Eastern region like Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim.


An exhibition displays the wide range of cane and Bamboo crafts, Handloom weaving, artistic textile weaving, Wood Carving, Embroidery, Jewellery, Brass and Bell Metal, Basketry and some of the time honoured traditional crafts of the North Eastern Region traditional.


It also exhibits hand woven fabrics with rich and symbolic ornamentation of Assam, the eye catching Tribal ornaments, Dragon, Geometric and Floral motifs of Arunachal Pradesh. The beautiful toys and dolls made of straw and clay ad famous Kauna Grass cushions and mattress of Manipur, the cap of Mizoram, the most colourful tribal weaves as well as the wooden handicrafts like basketry items and Nag spear of Nagaland give an enviable place to the North Eastern Region in the realm of Arts and Crafts.
