The complex which will have 2.26 lakh square feet plinth area with G+3 storey will come up on 5.8 acres of land. The complex will accommodate 38 departments and offices of MLAs and MP, he told mediapersons after inspecting the complex work on Sunday.

Initially, it was planned to construct at an estimated cost of Rs 41 crore. The cost of project has now escalated to Rs 55 crore. Owing to shortage of funds, the work on the DC’s office complex was delayed. The flood relief works and increase in cost of construction materials had resulted in stalling of the project. The work on building would be expedited, Kotian added.

‘’A meeting of all MLAs from the district, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, District In-charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary and District In-charge Secretary V Ponnuraj will be convened shortly, to discuss measures to complete work at the earliest. We will also meet the chief minister to seek the release of additional funds for the work,’’ he said.

When the land for DC’s office complex was identified in 2014, environmentalists had approached the Green Tribunal against the felling of trees.  The new complex has parking facility to accommodate 175 to 200 cars. The work on the project was initiated in February 2018 and should have been completed before August 2019. An amount of Rs 32 crore was spent to complete the structural work and the government had released Rs 24 crore so far, he added.
