Preceding a media address by the party at the election office today, a group of women including fish traders, animal activists and flower vendors honoured Chowta with an aarti, tilak and garland.

“Bharat Mata entrusted him to safeguard her as a soldier …and now we as mothers of our town wish a son of our soil the best as he gears up for another battle starting tomorrow. Which is why we wanted to contribute small token amounts as a motherly gesture,” said Animal rescuer Rajni Shetty, speaking at the event.

“It is indeed my privilege and blessing that I am being showered such love by the Nari Shakti of our region. On the punyatithi of Hindu Hrudaya Samrat Chatrapathi Shivaji Maharaj, this show of trust and support by mothers here reminds me of Bhavani giving him the sword. There’s no looking back henceforth” said Captain Brijesh Chowta.

He also paid tributes to Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw and said “ I remember with all humility and pride my hero and inspiration and for all Gorkhas our ‘Sam Bahadur’ on his birth anniversary on the eve of filing nomination,”.

“It gives us great pride to see a young man from a middle class home aspire to take Dakshina Kannada on the path of leadership. As a flower vendor garlanding him is my way of wishing a son the best” said Yashoda Poojary, who runs Appe Kallurti Flower Stall.

A group of fisherwomen from the city then handed over the token amount all of them had collected and blessed Captain Brijesh Chowta as he touched their feet and sought their blessings
