Mangaluru: August 25, 2015: District in charge minister B Ramanath Rai said a mega ``Udyog Mela’’ was in the offing involving entrepreneurs and investors in the Middle East to open up employment opportunities for the youth here.
Speaking at an interactive session at the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry here, Rai said the three day event will be held in November. He was responding to a request from KCCI to promote the Mangalore Special Economic Zone in the upcoming Global Investors Meet (GIM) to be held in Bengaluru. The KCCI memorandum stated that Mangalore SEZ has been declared as a multi-product SEZ and industries need to be invited to set up operations in this ready to use facility and leverage employment generation.
He said the plan was in initial stages and will involve entrepreneurs in the Middle East so that employment opportunities would be presented in that region to the youth here.
On the city being shortlisted in the initial round of selection for Smart city and how it would bring in much needed funds giving a boost to infrastructure and the economy, Rai said a plan of action need to be chalked out involving all stakeholders.
