Following the welcome address by Pushparaj Jain, D.B. Mehta delivered the felicitation address in which he hailed the IGP as a highly decorated officer who distinguished himself with his quiet efficiency and deep personal humility. He recalled that his tenure as IGP renewed his old relationship with the district as he had begun his career as an Assistant Superintendent of Police in Karkala taluk. Mehta also lauded the officer’s versatility as he had not only excelled in normal police duties but also shown great proficiency in establishing the Cyber Crime division from scratch during his posting at Nasscom, along with investigating economic offences for CBI and serving Fire Department as Additional Director General.

As Prathap Reddy is now slated to join the state Home Ministry as Secretary, Mehta urged him to continue his association with the district by extending his best services in matters relating to this region which come under his purview in his new posting.

On behalf of the Police Department, R. Hithendra hailed the IGP as a thorough gentleman who led the force with a judicious mix of efficiency and courtesy. “Unlike the stereotype boss one sees in the movies, I have fond our IGP to be always gentle and courteous to his subordinates. Patience and understanding of issues as well as openness to new ideas have been the hallmark of his career,” he said.

Later responding to the felicitation, Reddy fondly recalled how thrilled he was to be sent to Dakshina Kannada. “As I hail from the East Coast of India, it was a welcome experience for me and my family to once again enjoy the coastal weather, the beaches and the lovely sea food. We cherish our moments here and we certainly look forward to visiting again in the future,” he said.

He asserted that police department is in full control of the security of the region. “We are on top of things and we spare no efforts to ensure that things don’t get out of hand,” he said. He also assured the gathering that he would continue to do his best for the district in his new portfolio.

A senior police officer, Seemath Kumar Singh, who had earlier served as the SP and later as City Police Commissioner is expected to replace the outgoing IGP.

DCP D Dharmaiah was present on the occasion. Shrinath Hebbar proposed the vote of thanks.  Senior journalist Manohar Prasad compeered the programme.
