Mangaluru, Oct 17 2019: In view of ’Gandhi-150’ and to create awareness about Mahatma Gandhi, the BJP district unit will organise ‘Gandhi-150 Padayatre’ in all the eight Assembly constituencies, 230 gram panchayats, and the urban local bodies in the DK district from October 20 to November 5.
“The DK district-level programme will be inaugurated in front of the Gandhi statue on the Town Hall premises in Mangaluru on October 20, which will be attended by BJP state president Nalin Kumar Kateel and District In-charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary,” said Sanjeeva Matandoor, MLA and BJP district president.
He added that, after the flagging off of the programme, a rally will be taken out from Town Hall to Karavali Maidan. On the whole, 1,200 km will be covered through the rally in eight Assembly constituencies.
He said that a 150-km long rally will be organised in each Assembly constituency under the aegis of seven BJP MLAs and the BJP president. “It will cover all the 422 villages and 230 gram panchayats in the district. It is a political programme where the idea is to motivate youth to follow Gandhiji’s principles. The BJP has already made enough preparations for the programme. A vehicle displaying photographs of Gandhi and playing Bhajans will also be part of the programme,” he added.
“Awareness will be created on the principles of Gandhi, Swadeshi principles and sanitation. Awareness will also be created against bad habits. Use of Khadi will be promoted to generate employment. Further, the rally will give thrust to water conservation, and the ill-effects of the use of plastics,” he explained. People of the city and peripheri are urged to join in large numbers.
