Mangaluru, Feb 26, 2019: The VI Additional District and Sessions Judge D.T. Puttarangaswamy has sentenced to life without remission Mohan Kumar alias ‘Cyanide’ Mohan for murdering a 25-year-old woman from Peraje in Bantwal taluk.
This is the seventh case in which he has been convicted.
According to the chargesheet by Bantwal police, Mohan promised to marry the girl and took her to a lodge in Madikeri on January 2, 2008.
He raped her and the next day took her to the Madikeri bus stand and made her consume a cyanide pill by making her believe that it was a contraceptive pill.
The victim was found dead in the washroom of the bus stand. On the basis of information by a woman who survived his bid to murder her by giving a cyanide pill, the Bantwal police arrested Mohan for the murder of the 25-year-old woman and 19 other women.
The Judge on Saturday sentenced Mohan to life without remission on finding him guilty for the offence under Section 302 of Indian Penal Code.
To run concurrently
He was also sentenced for offences under Sections 366 (kidnapping), 376 (rape), 328 (adminstering stupefying drug), 392 (robbery), 201 (causing disapperance of evidence) and 417 (cheating) of IPC. All sentences will run concurrently, the Judge noted.
