Kundpaur: August 21, 2015: The police on Thursday arrested a man for illegally transporting "Anna Bhagya" rice and selling it at a higher price near Kundapur.
The ‘Anna Bhagya scheme’ was launched by CM Siddarammiah in which 30 kg of rice are supplied to below poverty level card holder at Rs.1.
The accused Mohammed Naseer (34) resident of Kundapur was arrested near Janata Colony in Uppunda by the police team led by Kundapur food inspector Chandrashekar.
According to the sources, the accused was transporting 883 kg of rice amounting Rs. 24,416 in an Omni.
The locals were aware of the illegal racket and had been complaining for a long time, even to the Udupi DC. The DC instructed the police officials and food department to look into the matter.
On Thursday, when Nasser was transporting the rice, the locals informed the matter to the police who immediately rushed to the spot and arrested Naseer red-handed. However, the two other accused managed to escape from the spot.
A case has been registered at local police station.
