Woman militant involved in Gurdaspur terror attack, Punjab top cop killed

July 27, 2015: At least five people were killed and many injured when heavily-armed terrorists wearing Army fatigues hijacked a car, drove down to this town in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district, peppered the bus stand with bullets and then stormed a police station -- shattering two decades of calm in the state.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister assures Lok Sabha that Home Minister Rajnath Singh will make a statement on Gurdaspur terror incident after the encounter is over.

The Uttar Pradesh government has sounded a high alert across the state after the terror attack in Punjab.

Officials say the Intelligence Bureau had tipped of Uttar Pradesh Police on "certain threat perceptions" which were "attended to immediately".

Security in Delhi has been beefed up and a red alert has been sounded following a terror attack in Punjab.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh orders BSF to immediately move forces to Gurdaspur to assist police following attack by suspected terrorists.

"We want peace with Pakistan, but not at the cost of national honour," Singh says.

Amidst reports emerging that the terrorists came from Pakistan, the Home Minister says, "I can’t understand why time and again cross border terror incidents are taking place when we want good relations with our neighbour."

​"We will not be the first to strike, but if we are hit, we will give a befitting reply," the Home Minister noted.
