New Delhi, January 4, 2016: Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi today said that if the Constitution permitted his men, they would not hesitate to shoot the accused in crimes against women.

Bassi added that women safety was Delhi Police’s top priority. "We may not shed crocodile tears like others but we are serious in our work as far as women safety is concerned," the top cop.

Without naming the Delhi CM, Bassi took a swipe at Arvind Kejriwal and said," Humein dramebaazi ki fikr nahi. Thank god that Delhi Police is under Centre."

Bassi’s statement could trigger a fresh face-off between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Delhi government and the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre. Bassi and CM Kejriwal have been at loggerheads over the control Delhi Police ever since the AAP government returned to power in the national capital in February, 2015.

In an exclusive interview with India Today in October last year, Bassi had hit out at the Delhi CM saying Kejriwal had not been able to stop corruption in his six-men cabinet and he should not be telling others on how to do their job.

Bassi termed as ’laughable and completely unconstitutional’ AAP’s plan of starting separate police stations in case the Delhi Police doesn’t register cases. Bassi said ’anyone with one sense of the law will tell you that something like this can simply not be done. It’s a laughable idea.’
